THERAPY SERVICES

What is Therapy?

Therapy, also known as counseling or psychotherapy, starts with a trusting relationship with your therapist, who understands what you’re going through and what you’re feeling. As your therapist, I support you in your process, help you gain clarity about yourself, work with you to identify patterns in which you get stuck and challenge you to use newly acquired perspectives, energies and skills toward achieving your goals.

For Whom Do You Provide Therapy?

I work with individuals who are helpers, healers, artists and visionaries who want to bring their most authentic selves into the world and have a bigger impact on their lives and the lives of others.

Do You Take Medical Insurance?

I’m an out–of–network provider and am happy to provide you with a superbill for submission to your medical insurance. Your insurance company may require a billable psychiatric diagnosis, which will become part of your permanent medical record.  I empower clients to make informed decisions by providing you with questions to ask your insurance company.

What is Online Therapy?

I offer therapy that takes place on the phone or the computer via video–conferencing, similar to Skype, though from a secure, private platform at a time and place that’s convenient for you. Clients and I find that compassion transcends space (and time) and that our connection is palpable and productive.

What is Your Experience?

I earned my Master’s Degree in Art Therapy from George Washington University in 1983 and moved to New England to experience the beauty and tranquility of the mountains. There, I opened and ran a community–based day program to serve folks suffering from severe psychiatric disorders. I received my licensure as a mental health counselor and shifted my focus to chairing a Dialectical and Behavioral Therapy program for women suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder. In 2001, after seventeen years of service in community mental health, I opened my private practice. I’m a nationally registered art therapist, certified Internal Family Systems therapist, Tantra Yoga Educator, Mindfulness Meditation practitioner/instructor and intuitive counselor and energy healer. I was led to Asheville to immerse myself in its feminine energy and further to serve women and healers. I draw upon my diverse training, experience and compassion and love of people to provide you with the best possible care.

What is Internal Family Systems Therapy?

Let’s use the example of a possible internal part of you: Perfectionism, wherein you strive to do the best you can, though end up overworking things and getting stressed because you’ve gotten nowhere. My role is to help you and Perfectionism actually have a conversation. Talking with your parts may sound weird, though I tell folks, “It f…ing works” because the part wants to be known and understood by you and wants to serve you well, though has no idea how it inadvertently has derailed you, that is, until it talks with you! Once the part learns that it’s not helping, it typically chooses to change so that it can become an effective force within you. IFS promotes sustained, highly effective transformation. What is Art Therapy?

Art Therapy is a process in which you experience healing through making art and gain insight about yourself through your self–expression. No experience or expertise needed! As your art therapist, I provide you with support in your art–making process and help you trust the messages of your art process and content. We can have art therapy sessions online and only if we agree that it makes sense to give it a go! For more information, click on: https://www.arttherapyblog.com/what–is–art–therapy

What is Intuitive Counseling?

Whether woven into therapy sessions or as a stand-alone service, Guidance from Source is provided through me to help you move through your challenges. The information typically clicks, which then catalyzes your growth process. Healing energy may also be offered to assist in your release of physical, emotional and spiritual blockages. Whatever Guidance and energy that comes in is intended for you, in that moment for your highest good.

Can You Guarantee That I’ll Feel Better?

Although I can’t definitively say “yes,” I have seen that those who actively engage in therapy and work toward their goals do feel better. A lot depends on you. The more consistent your involvement and the more committed you are to the process, the greater the likelihood that you’ll create sustained change and improvement in your life. If you’re ready to approach your difficulties, express your feelings and apply new learning then you can feel better and live a rich and full life.
